Anita Hill weighs in
The lawyer, professor, and activist spoke on campus following the release of a report on sexual harassment of women in academia.
In September, Anita Hill joined Institute Professor Sheila Widnall ’60, SM ’61, PhD ’64, and Wellesley College president Paula Johnson to discuss the consensus report Widnall and Johnson led on sexual harassment of women in academic sciences, engineering, and medicine. It found that 50 percent of female faculty and staff experience gender harassment, unwanted sexual attention, or sexual coercion; the cumulative effect results in significant damage to research integrity and costly loss of talent. The report also offers recommendations to address the issue. Said Hill, “If Title IX was the first step, this volume is a critical next step.”
